Maddie Stebich keyed a pair of late-inning rallies as the Misericordia University softball team swept Wilkes, 1-0, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at the Ralston Athletics Complex.
Stebich drove in the game's only run with a pinch-hit single in the top of the sixth inning in the opener and she reached via hit by pitch to start a two-out game-winning rally in the seventh inning of game two.
Alexis D'Amico and
Taylor Kenerson both had two hits in the opener while Kenerson and winning pitcher
Brooke Moyle both had doubles.
Moyle struck out four while allowing just two hits.
After Wilkes took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of the nightcap, the Cougars tied it their next at-bat.
Abby Marzzacco led off the fourth with an infield single and moved up a sacrifice bunt. She stole third and came home on
Melanie Quintanilla's sacrifice fly.
With two down in the top of the seventh, Stebich was hit by a pitch and pinch-runner Caitlyn Kennedy advanced to second on a passed ball. Jess Pluta walked and both runners moved up on another passed ball with Kennedy scoring the winning run.
Marzzacco and Kenerson had hits for MU.
Jordan Hoffman scattered six hits while allowing just one unearned run over five innings.Â
Victoria Schmidt tossed 1.2 shutout innings to pick up the win while Moyle got a game-ending strikeout with runners on second and third to get the save.
Misericordia improved to 9-9 overall and 3-1 in the MAC Freedom and will visit Manhattanville, Sunday.
