The 24
th ranked Misericordia women's soccer team defeated Arcadia Saturday night 1-0 at Mangelsdorf field thanks to
Jackie Stevens, who scored the game's lone goal in the 81
st minute.
The goal was set up off a corner kick from
Alex Gallagher who sent it into the box where it found the foot of senior
McKenzie Ruffing who knocked it over to Stevens for the goal.
Misericordia remains unbeaten, improving to 5-0-2 while the Knights fall to 5-2.
The game was evenly matched the entire night with MU having a slight 17-16 edge in shots and a 7-3 advantage in corners while Arcadia had a 9-6 edge in shots on goal.
The Cougars had a couple of chances to take the lead in the first half, with its best chance coming in the 17
th minute when Gallagher was one-on-one with the keeper but her shot hit the right post.
Stevens nearly put MU on the board midway through the second half she carried down the left flank, beat a defender at the top of the box, but bent a shot wide of the right post.
After Misericordia took the lead, Arcadia went on the attack trying to find the equalizer. In the last nine minutes of the game, the Knights managed to earn two free kicks from just outside the box. In both cases, Pojero made the save to preserve the lead.
Misericordia will have its toughest challenge of the season thus far when they travel to face third-ranked William Smith, Tuesday at 4:30.
