The Misericordia University women's basketball team jumped out to big lead early and never looked back as they took care of business against Wilkes, 89-33, Wednesday night at the Anderson Center.
The Cougars improve to 11-6 and 4-2 in the MAC Freedom while Wilkes falls to 4-13 and 0-7 in conference play.
Misericordia out-rebounded the Colonels 58-38 and forced 30 turnovers.
Quintessa Zamolyi led the Cougars with 13 points and Emma Hayes added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Cougars raced out to a quick 11-2 lead forcing a Wilkes timeout five minutes into the game. Kalynn Sefcik started the game by hitting two free throws followed by two buckets by Zamolyi. Erica Haefele then hit Rachel Carmody for a three from the wing and Paige Wampole down low for an easy layup. With 47 seconds to go in the quarter, Japriya Carroll hit her sixth straight three point attempt dating back to their last game against DeSales. Sefcik gave the Cougars a 20-9 lead after one quarter by hitting a three at the buzzer.
Misericordia continued to build their lead in the second quarter, going on a 10-2 run to begin the period, highlighted by six points by Brenna Karnish. Shelly Anderson got into the scoring column by hitting two threes at both ends of a 19-0 Misericordia run to end the half.
Another big run sparked the Cougars in the third, scoring 16 straight points culminating in a Haefele three-pointer. After three quarters, the Cougars held a commanding 75-20 lead.
In the fourth, head coach Jason Rhine emptied his bench, allowing Lena Williams and Shea Matta to score their first points of the game.
The Cougars are back in action, Saturday when they travel to FDU-Florham to take on the Devils at 1:00.
