Two Late TD's Lift MU Football to Sixth Straight Win

Box Score The Misericordia University football team scored twice in the final 1:01 to keep its magical season alive with a thrilling 37-33 win over FDU-Florham, Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars improved to 6-1 overall and remained unbeaten in the MAC at 5-0.

Brady Williams was 24-42 for 277 yards and four TD's as the Cougars won their sixth straight game.  Isaiah Williams had nine catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns and Sam Gillison added seven catches for 84 yards and two TD's

Brady Williams added one rushing TD.

After an FDU-Florham touchdown with 8:40 to play put the Cougars in a 33-21 hole, MU began its comeback on the two-point conversion attempt when Damian Diaz stepped in front of the pass near the right pylon and went 100 yards the other way to get within 33-23.

MU forced a punt to get the ball back at their own 27 with 4:33 to play.  Clayton Vleck took a screen pass down the left sideline for 16 yards on first down to the MU 43.

Following a sack of Williams, Klayton Kelly made a diving catch across the middle to the 50-yard line.

Facing fourth-and-three, Williams rolled right and hit Gillison near the right sideline for a first down at the Devils' 44.

Isaiah Williams made a leaping catch on the left sideline for 16 yards and followed up with a diving catch across the middle for 12 yards to the FDU 15-yard line.

A pass interference penalty in the end zone eventually led to a third and goal where Williams scrambled to his right, avoided two potential sacks and found Isaiah Williams inside the right sideline for the score with 1:01 to go.

Down 33-30, Donovan Berger came on to execute a perfect on side kick with Nick Yeager recovering the kick for MU at their own 49.

Gillison hauled in a quick out along the left sideline for 15 yards to the FDU 36 and Kelly followed with a sliding catch across the middle to the 22.

Gillison ran under Williams pass in the back left corner of the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown with :33 to play.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Cougars went ahead early in the second quarter.

Misericordia moved to the FDU 23 where they faced a fourth-and-four when a pass interference penalty in the end zone set up a first and goal.

Williams rolled to his right and threw back to a wide-open Isaiah Williams for a 7-0 lead with 11:55 to play in the first half.

The teams exchanged punts before the Devils went 76 yards in 10 plays for a TD.  Zach Orzell blocked the PAT and MU led 7-6 with 3:16 left.

Isaiah Williams took the ensuing kickoff and raced 38 yards from the right side to the MU 49-yard line.

David Cromwell picked up 31 yards on five carries to move the Cougars to the FDU 15.

Williams lofted a perfect back-shoulder pass to Gillison in the left corner of the end zone for a 14-6 lead with :31 remaining in the first half.

The Devils got an interception in the own end early the second half and went 78 yards in eight plays to get within 14-13 with 11:07 to go in the third quarter.

FDU forced an MU punt and took its first lead on a 90-yard punt return to go in front 20-14 with 7:42 remaining in the third quarter.

The Devils' special teams struck again when the blocked an MU punt in the end zone for another TD and 27-14 lead with 1:52 to play in the third period.

Jamal Dallas took his first carry on the ensuing drive 27 yards around left end to the FDU 48-yard line.  Two more carries by Dallas to the FDU 39 to end the third quarter.

Facing fourth-and-9, Williams rolled right and found Josh Dieter for a leaping grab at the Devils 2-yard line.

Brady Williams lunged in on third-and-goal to get MU within 27-21 with 12:06 to play.

The Devils went 75 yards in seven plays to take a 33-23 lead with 8:40 remaining to set up MU's comeback.

Yeager and Garrett Murray led the MU defense with eight tackles and Mike Becke and Matt Gillingham both had six stops.

Misericordia will visit King's, Saturday.
