Jordan Hoffman threw a three-hit shutout to lead the Misericordia University softball team to 1-0 in the second game of a split at Susquehanna, Thursday.
Susquehanna took the opener, 8-2.
In game two,
Kayla Stephani singled in the game's only run in the top of the fourth.Â
Kiersten Pflueger had two hits for the Cougars and Jessica McDonough doubled and scored.
In the opener,
Lori Brennan hit a solo homer and
Amanda Butera drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Victoria Schmidt scattered eight hits over 4.2 innings while absorbing the loss.
Brennan put the Cougars in front in game one when she led off the top of the second with a solo homer to center.
Susquehanna took advantage of a pair of walks and an error to score an unearned run in the bottom of the second.
MU went back in front in the top of the third.Â
Maddie Holub led off with a bunt single and went to third on
Ciara DeLong's single to center. Butera brought Holub home with a sac fly to center.
Susquehanna used a lead-off walk and a two-out single to pull even in the bottom of the third.
The River Hawks took their first lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth and added two runs in the sixth.
In the nightcap, McDonough doubled to left with one out in the fourth and advanced to third on Brennan's foul out down the right field line.
Stephani came through with a two-out RBI-single to center.
The Cougars will travel to FDU-Florham for their MAC Freedom finale, Saturday.
