Box Score The Misericordia University football team picked up its third straight win with a 52-33 victory over Castleton (VT), Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Brady Williams threw for three touchdown and ran for three more and
Sam Gillison had four catches for 156 yards and two scores.
David Cromwell ran for 164 yards and a touchdown and Isaiah Solomon added a touchdown reception.
John Pearson led the MU defense with 10 tackles while Joe Grasso added seven stops.
Misericordia took the opening kick off and marched 61 yards in six plays. After Cromwell rambled 35 yards to convert a fourth-and-1, Williams went four yards on first-and-goal to give MU a 7-0 lead three minutes into the game.
Castleton answered with an 11-play scoring drive, but the Cougars responded with another scoring drive of their own with Williams hitting Solomon with a 31-yard scoring strike for a 14-7 lead late in the first quarter.
After MU forced a punt,
Jamal Dallas took his first carry around the left end for 25 yards to the Castleton 38 and Williams connected with Gillison on the next play for a touchdown and a 21-7 lead with 1:50 to play in the first quarter.
Castleton got on the scoreboard again with a touchdown on the second play of the second quarter to get within 21-14.
The Spartans blocked a Cougars punt deep in MU's own end, but an interception by
Damian Diaz on first down got the MU offense back on the field.
A 27-yard run by Cromwell moved the Cougars into Castleton territory and Williams hit Gillison for 34 yards to set up first-and-goal at the six yard line.
Cromwell went off left tackle for the score and a 28-14 lead with 8:58 left in the first half.
Castleton responded with a 70-yard scoring drive and MU answered with a Williams-to-Gillison 56-yard TD pass for a 35-21 lead with 1:12 left in the first half.
The Spartans pulled within 35-27 when they recovered a fumble in the MU end zone with :09 to go before halftime.
Williams added two short TD runs in the second half as MU took control.
The Cougars are 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the MAC and will host Alvernia for Homecoming, Saturday.
