Alvernia Field Hockey Edges MU in OT

The Misericordia University field hockey team fell to 0-3 after losing to Alvernia University, 2-1, in overtime, Wednesday on Mangelsdorf Field.

Sophomore Tori Carsley scored her first goal of the season for Misericordia to knot the game at one in the first half. Kyleigh Knell was credited with the assist.

Alvernia forward Emily Hart opened up the scoring in the 27th minute after putting back a Regan Downey rebound. However, the Cougars answered back three minutes later when Carsley connected on a one-timer from Kyleigh Knell.

Katelyn Campbell made several clutch saves throughout the second half to keep the game tied. With 15-minutes left in the half, Campbell denied Andrea Zimmerman on back-to-back attempts. The first Zimmerman attempt was ripped from 15-yards out while the latter was off a second chance rebound. Campbell dove to her right and corralled the shot.

In overtime, Campbell made another clutch save on a Brooke Spezialetti breakaway. However, five minutes later Morgan Mondschein beat Campbell to her left side for the game winner. The junior goalkeeper ended the night with 14 saves.

Misericordia will host Ithaca College, Saturday at 1:00.
