The Misericordia University women's basketball season ended with a loss to NYU in the ECAC semifinals for the second straight season, 69-59, Saturday night Cabrini.
Tessa Zamolyi led the Cougars with 18 points and seven rebounds and
Japriya Carroll added 17 points in her career finale.
Jordan Barth grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and
Rachel Carmody added six points and seven rebounds in her final game.
NYU jumped out to a quick 7-0 and never trailed.
Down 11-2 midway through the opening period, Zamolyi drilled a three-pointer and Carroll added two free throws to get MU within 11-7.
Zamolyi added a layup late in the period and Barth sank a jumper in the closing seconds and the Cougars trailed 17-11 after one quarter.
The teams traded buckets throughout most of the second quarter and NYU took a 36-27 lead into halftime.
The Violets took a 46-29 lead early in the third quarter, but the Cougars began chipping away.
Emma Hayes knocked down a jumper and Zamolyi converted a three-point play to get within 46-34 with 5:16 left in the third period.
Leanne Forsyth made a pair of baskets and assisted on
Erica Haefele's three-pointer to end the third quarter with the Cougars down, 55-45.
Zamolyi made two free throws with 8:38 to go in the fourth quarter, but neither team managed another point for nearly three minutes and the Cougars trailed 55-47 with just under 6:00 to play.
Carroll hit a three pointer and converted a three-point play to cut the deficit to 57-53 with 4:53 remaining, but the Cougars never got any closer.
Misericordia ended its historical season with the most wins in school history at 23-6.
