The Misericordia University softball team swept a pair of games in Kissimmee, FL, Monday.
The Cougars beat Widener, 8-3, and Thiel, 10-3, to improve to 3-1.
Jessie McDonough had three hits, including a homer, and drove in three runs against Widener.
Amanda Butera had two hits and
Ciara DeLong hit a two-run homer.
Jessica Oltman struck out four and scattered six hits to go the distance and earn her first collegiate victory.
DeLong blasted a grand slam and drove in five runs against Thiel.
Megan Murphy added two hits and McDonough and
Brooke Moyle both scored two runs.
Taylor Baloga worked four innings to earn her first win with MU and
Miranda Bohn went the final three innings to notch her first save.
The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning against Widener. After Butera singled and stole second and third, Briana Holder walked and stole second. Bohn followed with a two-run single.
MU added a run in the second when McDonough singled and went to third on a double by
Caitlin Kennedy.Â
Maddie Holub followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
The Cougars used the long ball to plate four runs in the fourth.Â
Antonia Pacillo walked and came around on McDonough's two-run dinger. Following a Holub walk, DeLong homered to make it 7-2.
Misericordia closed out the scoring in the fifth when
Kiersten Pflueger drew a lead-off walk and Murphy pinch-ran and eventually came around on McDonough's two-out single.
Against Thiel, the Cougars broke open a scoreless game with six runs in the top of the fourth.
Brooke Moyle singled and went to third on Murphy's double and McDonough walked to load the bases. Kennedy singled in a run and Holub drew a bases-loaded walk before DeLong drilled a grand slam to left field to make it 6-0.
MU tacked on a two-out run in the fifth with a pair of walks and an error.
The Cougars got a run in the sixth when Moyle walked and eventually scored on
Hailley Brown's pinch-hit single to make it 8-2.
After Oltman singled to lead off the seventh, Holub reached on a fielder's choice and scored on DeLong's triple to right center. Butera gave the Cougars a 10-2 lead with a sacrifice fly.
Misericordia will face Rhodes and Otterbein, Tuesday afternoon.
