The Misericordia University softball team defeated Keystone College, 8-0 and 9-1, on a rainy Tuesday afternoon at Anderson Field.
Brooke Moyle dominated in the opener, tossing six shutout innings with a season-best 13 strikeouts. The junior scattered just three hits and walked three batters.
Brianna Holder led the Cougars' offense with a three-run home run and two runs scored while
Ciara DeLong added two doubles and two RBI.
Miranda Bohn,
Jessie McDonough and Moyle each contributed an RBI for Misericordia in game one.
Danielle Heulitt reached base in all three plate appearances with a game-high three walks and one run scored.
In the third inning, DeLong helped kickstart the team's offense with an RBI double to center field, which scored McDonough from first base.
The Cougars broke the game open in the following inning with a five-run rally.
Kiersten Pflueger got things started with a one-out double to right-center field. She then came around to score on a Bohn single to right-center field in the team's following at bat, 2-0.
Heulitt helped prolong the inning with a two-out, seven-pitch walk to put runners on first and second. McDonough kept the inning alive with a one-run single up the middle, then Holder cleared the bases with a three-run homer to left-center field, 6-0.
The Cougars got one run in the fifth inning on a Moyle groundout, then added the game's final run in the sixth inning after Holder and DeLong hit back-to-back doubles to open the frame, 8-0.
Bohn earned her 13
th win of the season, surrendering just one run with four strikeouts in game two. The first-year pitcher is tied for second in the MAC Freedom in wins with a 2.11 ERA in 102.2 innings of work.
Bohn and McDonough led Misericordia's offense with two RBI in game two. Bohn was 2-for-2 with a walk and a run scored while McDonough was 1-for-2.
Maddie Holub, Moyle and Heulitt each added one RBI for the Cougars. Holub was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored.
Misericordia plated six runs and batted around in the opening inning. DeLong started the rally with a single to right field and advanced to third on two stolen bases. Holub then singled to left-center field to drive home DeLong, 1-0.
After loading the bases, Butera came around to score on a wild pitch. The Giants then walked in another run to plate Holub, 3-0.
Heulitt drove home another run with a slow roller, which scored Pflueger, who hustled from third base to beat the force at home. McDonough then plated two more runners with a single to right field, 6-0.
Misericordia added two more runs in the second inning. Holub started the rally with a one-out single and later advanced to third base on a stolen base and throwing error. Following a Pflueger walk, Holub came around to score on a wild pitch.
Moments later, Bohn capped-off the inning with an RBI double to left-center field, 8-0. After Keystone added one run in the fourth inning, the Cougars added a run in the bottom of the frame to put the game out of reach.
Pflueger led off the inning with her third walk of the game and advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch. Bohn then singled to left-center field to take an eight run lead, 9-1.
Misericordia improved to 26-10 overall while Keystone fell to 13-23. The Cougars will wrap up conference play at Delaware Valley, Saturday.
