The Misericordia University men's volleyball team opened its MAC schedule with a sweep of a tri-match with Widener at Wilkes, Thursday.

The Cougars beat Wilkes in the opener, 25-14, 25-16, 25-18 and beat Widener, 25-22, 25-23, 25-16.

In the opener, Ryan Miller had eight kills and 10 digs and Billy Murphy added seven kills, two aces, two blocks and 12 digs.

Matt Lavin had six kills and John Natiello had three aces.

Austin Cervasio had three blocks and Dylan Sellitti had 31 assists.

Against Widener, Brian Ross had nine kills and Lavin and Murphy had eight kills apiece.

Lavin had five blocks and Natiello had three more aces while Sellitti had 35 assists.

Leading 8-5 in the first set against Wilkes, the Cougars used a 10-2 run to take control.  Ross, Murphy and Natiello all had aces and Miller had three kills to put MU up, 18-7.

The Cougars took advantage of five Wilkes errors to close out the set.

Murphy had two kills to key a 6-0 as the Cougars built an 11-4 lead in the second set.

Murphy had two more kills to give MU a 20-12 lead and sandwiched an ace between to Wilkes errors to secure the win.

Down 9-4 in the third set, Miller and Lavin combined for four kills to put MU in front, 13-9.

Kills my Miller and Cervasio and an ace by Natiello clinched the win.

Down 18-17 in the first set against Widener, three straight attack errors gave MU a 20-18 lead.

Lavin's kill and an ace by Natiello made it 24-21 and a kill by Miller closed a 25-22 win.

MU never trailed in the second set and used a 5-2 run to take a 20-13 lead.

Widener rallied to get within 24-23, but Ross clinched the 25-23 win with a kill.

Natiello had two more aces to key a 6-0 run to secure the sweep.

The Cougars won their third straight to improve to 11-7 overall and 2-0 in the MAC.

Misericordia will travel to Kean for a tri-match, Sunday.
