The Misericordia University women's basketball team's rally came up short as the Cougars fell to King's, 74-63, in the MAC Freedom semifinals, Wednesday in the Anderson Center.
Tessa Zamolyi scored a game-high 23 points and
Jordan Barth had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Alyssa Bondi added 16 points for the Cougars.
The Cougars ended the game on an 8-0 run, capped by back-to-back three-pointers from
Erica Haefele and Bondi, before running out of time.
Playing from behind for most of the game, the Cougars battled back numerous times.
Down 42-26 early in the third quarter,
Gianna Delfino drilled a three-pointer from the left corner.Â
Morgan Haefele threaded a pass to Delfino underneath and Zamolyi buried a three-pointer from the top of the key to get the Cougars within 44-34 with 6:00 remaining in the third period.
Bondi hit a short jumper on the right baseline and then nailed a deep three-pointer to cut the deficit to 46-40 with 1:13 left in the period.
King's closed the quarter with five straight points to take a 51-40 lead.
Down 53-40 early in the fourth quarter, Bondi drilled another three-pointer from the left wing and Zamolyi drained a long jumper inside the top of the key with 8:22 to play.
Zamolyi connected on another deep three-pointer to make it 55-48 with 7:47 to go, but the Cougars never got any closer.
Barth opened the game with a short jumper off the glass and Zamolyi did the same to give the Cougars an early 4-3 lead.
Zamolyi added a free throw and layup off a nice pass from
Erica Haefele to make it 7-3 with 6:01 to play in the opening stanza.
King's answered with eight straight points to go up, 11-7, before Delfino found Barth underneath.
Nora Tracey finished a nice pass from
Melina Santacroce on the left side and the teams finished the first quarter tied, 11-11.
King's opened the second quarter on a 10-0 and led the rest of the way to advance to Saturday's MAC Freedom championship game at DeSales.
Misericordia, 20-6, will await a potential ECAC Championships berth.
