The Misericordia University men's volleyball team suffered its first MAC loss of the season, 3-1, to Alvernia, Thursday night at the Anderson Center.
The Cougars took the opening set, 25-22, but the Golden Wolves rallied to win three straight, 25-22, 25-20, 25-23.
Ryan Miller had 17 kills and four blocks to lead the Cougars and
Brian Ross had 13 kills and
Billy Murphy added 10.
Dylan Sellitti had 35 assists and 10 digs and
Conner Westerfield added 13 digs.
Austin Cervasio had four blocks and two aces.
Matt Lavin had two kills as the Cougars jumped out to a 5-1 lead that they never relinquished in the opener.
Alvernia got within 14-13, but Ross hit through a blocker to make it 15-13.
Murphy's smash from the left side gave MU a 19-15 lead.
Ross added a kill from the left side to make it 24-22 and Miller closed the set with a block.
The Cougars rallied from an early 5-2 hole to take a 6-5 lead.
Alvernia used a 5-0 run to take a 17-15 lead, but Miller and Ross both had kills from the middle to tie the score, 17-17.
Tied 19-19, the Golden Wolves ended the set on a 6-2 run.
The Cougars led throughout the early portion of the third set until Alvernia rallied to take a 12-11 lead.
Three attack errors helped MU take an 18-16 lead and Miller's smash from the right side made it 19-17.
Alvernia scored the next seven points and won the set, 25-20.
The Golden Wolves took a quick 5-0 lead in the finale, but the Cougars rallied and eventually pulled even, 16-16.
Alvernia went ahead 20-18, but two kills by Miller tied it, 20-20.
Alvernia scored three straight points and held on to win, 25-23.
The Cougars are 12-8 overall and 2-1 in the MAC.
