Misericordia Hosting NCAA Women's Soccer Championships

The top-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team will host the first two rounds of the NCAA Division III Championships, (NCAA Tournament Program) Saturday and Sunday and Mangelsdorf Field.

Misericordia will host Bryn Athyn in the opener, Saturday at 1:00 while Middlebury and Lynchburg will meet in game two at 3:30.

The winners will advance to the regional final, Sunday at 3:00.

The Cougars are ranked first in the country in the d3soccer.com poll and are 18-1 after winning the MAC Freedom championship a week ago.  MU is making its 13th NCAA Tournament appearance while Bryn Athyn is making the first tournament appearance in school history.

Misericordia's line-up features nine All-MAC Freedom honorees, including Offensive Player of the Year Kaylee Sturans and Rookie of the Year Emma Sweitzer.  Michaela Fasolino and Julia Beck were also named to the first team while Kate Field, Ally Waite and Alexis Benedetto were all named second-team.

Zoee Farr and Emma Przyhocki earned honorable mention and Mark Stauffer earned Coach of the Year honors.  Farr was also the MAC Freedom Tournament MVP.

Sweitzer and Sturans are the second-highest scoring tandem in the nation with 33 combined goals.  Sweitzer (18g, 12a) leads the team with 48 points while Sturans (15g, 7a) adds 37 points.

Fasolino (11g, 4a) has 26 points.

Benedetto has a 0.91 save percentage and has recorded nine shutouts and a 0.35 goals against average.

Misericordia has outscored their opponents, 75-9.

Bryn Athyn is 12-3-2 and has won 11 of their last 13 matches, including eight straight.  The Lions won the Colonial States Athletics Conference championship with a 2-0 win over Cairn.

CSAC Player of the Year Ashley Rivera (12g, 8a) had a goal and an assist against Cairn and was named CSAC Tournament MVP.

Maria Storck (11g, 1a) and Tori Titano (9g, 4a) add 23 and 22 points, respectively.

Rivera, Storck, Titano, Payton Gormley, Shea Gormley and Paulina Storck were named to the All-CSAC team.

Middlebury is 12-3-3 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament with a pair of penalty kick shootout wins in the NESCAC Championships.  The #19 Panthers are a six-game unbeaten streak (6-0-3).

Fanny Lodge (3g, 3a) and Eliza Van Voorhis (4g, 1a) lead the team with nine points each while Rose Evans (3g, 1a) and Gretchen McGrath (3g, 1a) add seven points each.

Sydney Poppinga has a 0.95 goals against average with five shutouts and an 82.7 save %... Van Voorhis and Elsie Morris were named first-team All-NESCAC and Gretchen McGrath made the second team.

Lynchburg is making its 20th NCAA Tournament appearance after earning an at-large berth.  The Hornets are 15-5 after a 1-0 loss to Virginia Wesleyan in the Old Dominion Athletics Conference finals.

Sydney Dombrovskis (7g, 4a) leads the team with 18 points and Amanda Wigboldy (5g, 4a) adds 14 points.

Taylor Smith (3g, 5a) adds 11 points and Alix Allen (4g, 2a), Alyssa Damato (4g, 2a) and Ella Tampio-Iorns (4g, 2a) have 10 points each.

Jade Lecklider has posted seven shutouts to go along with a 0.34 goals against average and ranks ninth in the country with a 90.7 save %.

Allen was named first-team All-ODAC while Wigboldy, Maddy Myers, Taylor Smith, Haleigh Casey and Claire Lloyd all made second team.

Lecklider and Emily Santana earned third-team honors.
