The Misericordia University field hockey team dropped its season opener to Moravian, 4-2, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Lily Metress and
Anna Effinger both scored for the Cougars.
After Moravian took a 1-0 lead with just 30 seconds to play in the first period,
Lily Metress pulled the Cougars even with her first career goal less than a minute into the second period.
She beat the Greyhounds goalie one-on-one and slotted a shot into the empty cage.
Olivia Gretz stopped a penalty shot less than five minutes into the second quarter to keep the game knotted, 1-1.
Anna Effinger gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead when she converted a penalty just five minutes into the third period.
The Greyhounds tied the score with a goal late in the period and added a pair of insurance goals in a three-minute span early in the fourth quarter.
Misericordia will host Ithaca, Wednesday at 7:00
