The Misericordia University football team lost at Wilkes, 28-0, Saturday.
Wilkes scored on its opening drive and added two touchdowns in the second quarter.
The Colonel scored the game's final TD late in the third quarter.
Eric Glass led the Cougars with 16 tackles and
Tim Hill added eight tackles and an interception.
Luke Wellman added an interception.
Trailing 21-0, the Cougars put together their best drive of the game late in the second quarter.
Following
Carlos Artson's 18-yard kick-off return, Tamar Wilson connected with
Lamontae Wilson and
Anthony DePalma for a first down at their own 38.
Michael Gawlik rushed for nine yards and Sample's two-yard run gave MU another first down across midfield.
Sample ran for nine yards on first down and hit Artson for 15 yards to the Wilkes 27.
The drive stalled and MU's 45-yard field goal attempt was blocked.
Sample connected with
Ryan Krisiak early in the fourth quarter to key a drive that moved deep into Wilkes territory.
Penalties backed the Cougars up to midfield and they were eventually forced to punt.
The Cougars are off next week and will host Stevenson, October 29.
