The second-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team improved to 13-0-1 with a 9-0 win at Wilkes, Tuesday night.
Kaylee Sturans,
Michaela Fasolino and
Sabrina Competiello scored two goals each as six different Cougars found the back of the net.
Emma Sweitzer and
Colleen Kinsella had a goal and an assist and
Ally Waite added a goal.
Madi Welliver,
Lauren Mondor and
Emma Stroud combined for two saves and the Cougars' seventh straight shutout.
The Cougars have out-scored their opponents 36-0 in that span, including 25-0 over the last three matches.
Esabella Mendola played a long pass to Sweitzer who rolled a ball along the end line where Sturans touched it inside the left post for the first goal of the night at 6:06.
The Cougars struck again just over two minutes later when Kinsella threaded a pass to Sturans, who beat the keeper 1-v-1 and scored in the empty net for a 2-0 lead at 8:19.
MU made it 3-0 when
Julia Beck played a lofted ball from the right side was headed down by a Wilkes defender and one-timed into to the right side of the net by Waite at 28:55.
Fasolino made it 4-0 when she stripped a defender inside the top of the box and placed a perfect shot inside the left post at 32:16.
Fasolino scored again when she turned and first a shot from eight yards out give MU a 5-0 lead at 41:23.
Misericordia closed out the first half scoring when
Olivia Maniskas ran down the ball along the right side and crossed a pass to Sweitzer, whose shot deflected off the keeper for a 6-0 lead at 44:01.
Competiello gathered a loose ball of a corner and turned and fired from eight yards out to open the second half scoring at 56:21.
Kinsella intercepted a pass deep in the offensive third, carried to the middle and placed a shot inside the left post to put the Cougars up 8-0 three minutes later.
Competiello closed out the scoring in the 88
th minute when she beat a defender on the left edge of the box and played a lofted ball inside the far post to make it 9-0.
The Cougars will visit Stevens, Saturday.
Coach Stauffer's Comments: "I thought we had another good start to a match and did a good job of getting on the board early. It provided another opportunity for us to get a lot of our young kids some significant minutes. Looking forward to a few good days of training in preparation for our next match on Saturday."
