A
Lily Metress goal with one minute remaining in regulation forced OT and
Shannon Murphy's goal in overtime lifted the Misericordia University field hockey team over Scranton, 2-1, Wednesday night.
Morgan Walsh had an assist on the Metress score and
Sarah Bogina made four saves in goal.
Olivia Kempf threaded a pass through the circle that slid under the outstretched arm of a sliding Scranton goalie as she came off her line and Murphy dribbled in to the empty net for the game-winner.
The Cougars only took two shots in the first half from Murphy and
Maddison Ortwine.
Bogina made a defensive stand in the third period with a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless.
Bogina started the fourth period off with another save.
Megan Radnoff's shot in the 56th minute was blocked by a defender and blocked another Radnoff shot two minutes later.
After Scranton went ahead with less than five minutes remaining in regulation, an MU corner with barely a minute on the clock set up Walsh to dump a pass to Metress to find the back of the goal and tie the game at 1-1.
Misericordia will host #15 York, Saturday at 5:00.
