The Misericordia University field hockey team dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 overtime decision at DeSales in the MAC Freedom semifinals, Wednesday night.
The Cougars led 2-1, but conceded the game-tying goal with 22 seconds remaining in regulation. The top-seeded Bulldogs scored the game-winner 2:30 into overtime.
Lily Metress and
Morgan Walsh scored for the Cougars.
Sarah Bogina made seven saves in goal.
The Cougars grabbed a quick lead when Ashley Pitz played a ball a ball from the top of the circle that found Metress behind the defense. She beat the keeper to put MU up, 1-0 at 2:02.
The Bulldogs tied it later in the first quarter and the score stood until the second half.
Morgan Walsh put MU back in front with a blast from the right wing at 51:59.
The Cougars appeared headed to victory until DeSales got a reverse-stick goal with just 22 seconds remaining to force overtime.
