Jonus Gurski finished second with a school-record (1:54.53) performance in the 200 IM to lead the Misericordia University men's swim team on the opening day of the MAC Championships, Thursday in York.
 
Jason Winters finished eighth in the 500 free after setting a school record 4:52.57 in the morning prelims.
 
Chris Farrell and Josh Zawatski were ninth and 10^thm, respectively, in the 50 free.  Nate Shappell finished 23^rd.
 
Ben Sorrentino was 15^th in the 200 IM while Logan Kuhar, Gurski, Winters and Farrell were fourth in the 200 medley relay.
 
The Cougars are fifth of 12 teams after one day with 174 points
