MU Drops Two to Elmira, Marymount

The Misericordia University men's volleyball team dropped a tri-match to Elmira and Marymount, Saturday afternoon on Doc Mould Court.

Anthony DePalma led the Cougars with 10 kills against Elmira while Billy Murphy had five kills and five aces.

Murphy had 11 kills and two aces against Marymount.

Dylan Sellitti had 46 assists on the day and Conner Westerfield had 17 digs.

The Cougars dropped three tough sets in the opener, 25-20, 25-21, 25-23.

Austin Cervasio's smash in the middle gave the Cougars an 11-10 in the opening set, but Elmira scored four straight to go ahead for good.

The Cougars got within 21-19 on a kill by Murphy and an Elmira error, but the Soaring Eagles closed on a 4-1 spurt to win 25-20.

In the second set, a DePalma kill and an Elmira ball-handling error gave MU its first lead, 7-6.

Elmira came out on top of two long rallies to fuel an 11-4 run to take a 17-11 lead.

Zane Martin's ace capped a 4-0 run to get within 22-20, but Elmira scored three of the last four points to win 25-21.

Murphy had a kill and back-to-back aces to put the Cougars in front, 20-18, in the finale, but Elmira rallied to clinch the win.

Marymount grabbed a 7-2 lead on the way to a 25-16 win the first set.

Murphy had a kill and an ace and DePalma added a kill as part of a 4-0 run to give the Cougars a 15-11 lead in the second set.

After Marymount rallied to tie the score, 21-21, DePalma had two kills to give the Cougars two chances to win, but the Saints stayed alive and scored three straight points to remain perfect on the season.
