The Misericordia University softball team won a pair of games in Clermont, Florida, Wednesday, with wins over Cornell (IA) and Penn State Brandywine.
The Cougars beat Cornell, 7-1, in the opener and down PSU Brandywine, 6-1, in the nightcap.
Alexa McHugh struck out six over four innings to win the opener and Miranda Bohn had three hits and five RBI.
Nicole Elliott added two hits and Emma Griffin drove in two runs.
McHugh drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the first and moved to third on a double by Elliott before Bohn put the Cougars up with a three-run homer.
McHugh doubled to lead off the third and scored on Bohn's single. Bri Holder singled and Griffin doubled in two runs to give MU a 6-1 lead.
The Cougars added an insurance run in the fifth when Elliott singled, stole second and scored on Bohn's single.
Emily Wenner and Sophia DeFebo combined for three innings of shutout of relief.
Bohn struck out 10 and helped her own cause with two hits and two RBI in the nightcap.
Elliott added three hits and two RBI and Kaitlin Redling had two hits and two RBI. Holder had two hits.
The Cougars used some two-out magic to take the lead in the bottom of the third.  Elliott singled, stole second and scored on Bohn's single. Redling followed with a two-run homer to make it 3-0.
MU added three more two-out runs in its next at bat. Elliott's two-run double made it 5-0 and Bohn closed out the scoring with a single.
Bohn allowed just four hits over six innings and Erin McGee struck out two in a perfect seventh.
MU is 4-2 and will play a tripleheader Thursday against Westfield State, SUNY New Paltz and Marietta.
