The Misericordia University softball team swept a doubleheader at Lycoming, 6-0, 7-5, Tuesday.
Alexa McHugh allowed just four hits over five innings and
Emily Wenner struck out four over the final two innings in the opener.
Brianna Burd had two hits and two RBI and
Antonia Pacillo drove in two runs.
Kaitlin Redling and
Brianna Holder had two hits each.
Redling led off the fourth with a double and moved to third on Holder's single up the middle. Burd drove in a run on an infield single and stole second before Pacillo's two-run single to left center made it 3-0.
Nicole Elliott reached on a fielder's choice in the fifth and scored all the way from first when Redling's single was misplayed in the outfield. Holder's single down the right field line made it 5-0.
Holder drew a two-out walk in the seventh and eventually scored on Burd's single to give MU a 6-0 lead.
The Cougars scored all of their runs in the second inning of the nightcap and
Miranda Bohn worked five shutout innings in relief to earn the win.
McHugh, Elliott, Holder and Pacillo all had two hits and Redling drove in two runs.
Down 2-0 after one inning, the Cougars scored seven runs in the top of the second.
Pacillo and
Emma Griffin singled and Marisa walked to load the bases.
Zariah Alvin singled in a run and McHugh doubled to right center to give MU a 3-2 lead. Elliott singled in a run and stole second before Redling doubled in a pair of runs to make it 6-2. Holder singled to center to give MU a 7-2 lead.
The Cougars are 15-6 overall and 5-1 in the MAC Freedom and will host DeSales, Thursday.
