The Misericordia University men's volleyball team lost to Randolph Macon, 3-2, and UC Santa Cruz, 3-0, Saturday in their season finale.
Anthony DePalma recorded a team-high 18 kills and seven digs and added two aces against Randolph Macon. Â
Austin Cervasio had eight kills along with four blocks and
Billy Murphy finished with 10 kills and five digs.
Alex Furlong had a career-high four aces and
Dylan Sellitti recorded 36 assists.
In the second match, Murphy had a team-high six kills and two aces.
Zane Martin and
Tyler Mallozzi both finished with five kills. Furlong had two aces Sellitti had 20 assists.
The Cougars battled Randolph Macon in a back-and-forth first set. Trailing by four early, the Cougars scored five consecutive points behind two
Alex Furlong aces.
Tied at 16, Furlong contributed with another ace to put MU up one.
A kill from
Austin Cervasio gave the Cougars a 24-23 lead and
Kyle Ganoe added a kill for the winning point.
Misericordia fell, 25-16 in the afternoon's second set.
The Cougars found themselves in another tight one to start set three. MU got hot halfway through the set, going on an 11-3 run to take a 21-14 lead.
DePalma contributed two kills and an ace during the hot streak. Cervasio and Ganoe recorded back-to-back blocks and Ganoe added an ace. DePalma was responsible for the Cougars' last three points in the set.

MU came up short, 25-22, in a competitive fourth set. The Cougars scored four straight behind two DePalma kills and a Connor Spenser ace. Back-to-back kills from the Cougars tied the set at 22.
Misericordia took an 8-5 lead in the fifth set after a Spencer ace.
Down 14-13, Murphy came up clutch with a kill to keep MU alive. Two plays later, DePalma came up with a kill to tie the set at 15.
In the finale, UC Santa Cruz downed MU in three sets, 25-21, 25-15, 27-25.
MU finished 16-19 against one of the toughest schedules in the nation.
