Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

#7 Cougars Open With Win

The seventh-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team opened the season with a 2-0 win at Susquehanna.

The Cougars dominated the play and scored an unassisted goal in each half.

Michaela Fasolino scored in the 12th minute and Julia Beck added an insurance goal in the 71st minute.

MU had a 22-4 edge in shots and had eight corners while allowing just one.

Fasolino scored on Misericordia's first shot of the game at 11:34.

The Cougars held Susquehanna without a shot over the final 13 minutes of the first half[ and allowed just one shot in the second half.

Madi Welliver and Emma Stroud combined for one save to earn the shutout.

"I thought tonight's match was a good first test for us," said Misericordia head coach Mark Stauffer.  "We were able to go pretty deep on our bench and get some young kids some time to see how they're developing.   We got two good goals from Fasolino and Beck, which is good to see early in the season.  Defensively we were strong, kept play in front of us and kept any pressure off of our keepers. I'm looking forward to watching this team develop as the season progresses."

Misericordia will host Chatham, Sunday at 1:00 on Mangelsdorf Field.
