MU Women's Soccer Moves to 5-0 With Shutout Over Nazareth

The seventh-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team survived rainy conditions to beat Nazareth, 2-0, Sunday on Mangelsdorf Field.

Maegan Allspach and Michaela Fasolino scored for MU as the Cougars improved to 5-0.

Sabrina Competiello added an assist and Madi Welliver made three saves in goal to earn her third shutout this season.

Allspach got a left-footed shot past a diving keeper to put Misericordia in the 15th minute.

The Cougars added an insurance goal early in the second half when Competiello found a wide-open Fasolino in the 53rd minute.

MU nearly made it 3-0 in the 73rd minute when Julia Beck's shot hit the crossbar and Fasolino's rebound was saved.

The MU defense dominated from the beginning and held Nazareth without shot for the first 19 minutes.

The Cougars will travel to Montclair State, Wednesday at 7:00.

Coach Stauffer's Comments: "I thought overall today we played a solid match and did a good job keeping things in front of us without giving up any chances in behind.  It wasn't our best attacking game middle third to final third, but we found a way to get the two goals and keep the shutout which is what we focus on each and every match."
