Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Kate Field's Late Goal Lifts #3 MU Women Over Scranton

Kate Field scored in the 88th minute to lift the third-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team a 1-0 win at Scranton, Wednesday afternoon.

Field scored unassisted from three yards out as the Cougars avenged their lone regular season loss from a year ago while improving to 7-0-1.

Brenna Field played a ball from the right flank on a re-start that was deflected in the box and eventually caromed off the left post where Kate Field buried the game-winner.

The Cougars had threatened three minutes earlier when Julia Beck's low drive on a direct kick from just outside the box was saved.

Emma Sweitzer's rip from 12 yards out on the left wing was saved near the left post in the 79th minute.

MU's Madi Welliver made five saves, including one from eight yards out on a breakaway in the 83rd minute.  Welliver collected a carom off the left post less than a minute later to stymie the Royals final threat.

Misericordia will open its MAC Freedom schedule when they host Arcadia, Saturday at 5:00.  The 2012 MU Final Four team will be honored at halftime.

Coach Stauffer's Comments: "It's always hard coming back after a tough match against a top-five team and trying to put it together again and I think it cost us a little bit tonight.   We seemed a bit slow and couldn't really find a rhythm of possession, especially early in the game.  However, I was proud of the way we kept fighting through and found a way to get a result over another top quality team on the road that doesn't give up many goals. We'll get better from this and be ready for our next match.  We're looking forward to another tough test with our first conference match on Saturday."
