Melina Santacroce had a double-double to lead the Misericordia University women's basketball team to a 56-53 come-from-behind win over Arcadia, Wednesday night on Doc Mould Court.
Santacroce had a game-high 20 points and grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds.Â
Gianna Delfino and
Alyssa Bondi had eight points each and
Morgan Haefele added six assists.
The Cougars trailed 51-48 with 3:07 to play, but closed the game on an 8-2 run.
Haefele hit MU's only three-pointer of the game to tie the score with 2:20 remaining.
Santacroce went coast-to-coast to convert a steal for a 53-51 lead and
Skylar Bianchi added a free throw to make it 54-51 with 1:19 to go.
After an Arcadia bucket, Bondi made a driving layup to make it 56-53 with 24 seconds to go and the Cougars defense held the Knights to a desperation heave at the buzzer.
Santacroce and
Meaghan McCaffrey combined for six straight points as the Cougars took a 22-14 lead early in the second quarter.
Arcadia pulled to within a point at halftime, 28-27, with Santacroce tallying 12 of MU's points in the first 20 minutes.
The Cougars fell behind, 33-32, with 6:41 to play in the third quarter and didn't regain the lead until Santacroce's steal and bucket with 1:59 to go.
Misericordia will host Delaware Valley, Saturday at 1:00.
