Misericordia, Arcadia Swimming Hold 'Pink the Pool' Fundraiser

11/1/2023 11:00:00 AM

The Misericordia University swimming teams recently hosted Arcadia University for a "Pink the Pool" breast cancer awareness meet at MU's Anderson Center.  Teams wore pink caps and spectators wore pink in an effort to raise awareness for breast cancer.

Misericordia organized a basket raffle and Arcadia sold t-shirts to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.  The event raised $1962 which donated in-memoriam of Eileen Gronwald, mother of a Misericordia swimmer, who passed away in April 2023.

"I'd like to thank everyone from both teams for participating in this event," said Misericordia head coach Zander Taylor.  "This is what athletics is all about, good people working together to do something great. Eileen was a wonderful person and a passionate swim-mom.  This was a great way to honor her memory and show support to those fighting breast cancer and their families."

Arcadia head coach John Fimmano echoed Taylor's remarks.  "It's always a fun dual meet when we swim Misericordia, but this was something special," he said.  "The races were great as both teams traded punches all meet-long.  But, at the end of the day everyone was fighting for something together."

The Cougars were victorious on the women's side, 133-128, while the Knight came out on top on the men's side, 147-115.
