The Misericordia University men's volleyball team got back into the victory column by scoring a pair of wins vs. Olivet and Wilkes, Saturday in the Anderson Center.
The Cougars dropped the opening set with the Comets but cruised in the next three, 25-17, 25-16, 25-16.
Zane Martin finished with a season-high 12 kills and recorded four blocks.
Kyle Ganoe had seven kills, 15 assists, two blocks and two aces.
Gannon DeFrain had a game-high four aces, along with a team-high 18 assists.
Connor Spencer added 12 digs and
Jackson Fehnel finished with 11 kills.Â
After dropping the first set of the day and trailing 3-2 in set #2, the Cougars scored four consecutive points and didn't look back. MU ended the set with a 5-1 run behind kills from Martin and Ganoe.
Misericordia went wire to wire in the final two sets. A pair of kills from Martin opened the third set, and a 9-3 run midway through the frame was the difference maker.Â
In the fourth set, MU jumped out to a 5-0 lead with some service help from DeFrain. Fehnel provided three kills during another 5-0 run later in the set and
Austin Hand put the match away with a kill for the 25th point.
In the nightcap, the Cougars straight-set the Colonels, 25-19, 25-14, 25-21. Fehnel had a team-high nine kills while Ganoe finished with seven kills, 10 assists and two blocks. Spencer recorded eight digs and four assists and DeFrain added 10 assists.
MU opened the first set with a quick 8-3 lead and ended it on a 5-1 run with Ganoe and Fehnel delivering kills.
A back-and-fourth second set erupted when the Cougar offense went on a 10-2 run with Fehnel and
Anthony DePalma providing kills and a DeFrain delivering an ace.Â
Misericordia and Wilkes battled through the third set with nine lead changes in the first half of the stage. Tied 17-17, the Cougars scored six straight with DeFrain at the service line and a kill from Ganoe secured the win.
