The Misericordia University men's volleyball team advanced to the MAC Semifinals with a thrilling 3-2 win at Stevenson, Tuesday night.
Jackson Fehnel had a team-high 19 kills and
Anthony DePalma had 18 kills and five blocks.
Gannon DeFrain had 47 assists and
Alex Furlong had 16 digs while Fehnel and DePalma had 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
After, Stevenson used a 5-1 run to take a 9-5 lead in the decisive set, the Cougars scored three straight points on a kill from DePalma and two Mustangs attack errors.
Down 11-9,
Austin Cervasio,
Zane Martin and DePalma had consecutive kills to give MU a 12-11 lead.
Stevenson tied it on the next play, but Fehnel had back-to-back kills and
James Walsh and
Benjamin Clendening combined for a block for the match-winner.
The Cougars took the opener, 25-22, in a set that neither team led by more than four points. Tied 20-20, Fehnel put the Cougars in front for good with a kill and a Stevenson error gave MU a 22-20 lead.
Following an MU service error,
Kyle Ganoe's kill made it 23-21. Stevenson pulled within a point on a kill, but closed the set with a service error and attack error.
Ganoe led the Cougars with five kills in the opener.
Stevenson evened the match with a 25-17 win, but the Cougars took the third set, 25-21.
The Cougars built a 20-15 lead and DePalma had two kills, a block and an ace to account for MU's final four points.
The Mustangs stayed alive with a 25-23 win to set the stage for MU's rally in the finale.
Misericordia will play at top-ranked Stevens, Thursday at 6:00.
