The Misericordia University football team picked up its first win of the season, 35-15, over Alvernia, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Lamontae Wilson had three interceptions, including a pick-six, and five different players scored touchdowns for the Cougars.
Colton Peischl,
Matt Maransky and
T.J. Lattimore all had short rushing TD's and
Mike Rozell had a nine-yard scoring reception.
Eric Glass had a team-high nine tackles and the MU defense had six sacks.
Wilson made a leaping interception on the first play from scrimmage and returned it 28 yards to the Alvernia five yard line. Peischl plunged in from one yard to give MU a quick 7-0 lead.
The Cougars had back-to-back sacks to force an Alvernia punt on the next series and went 45 yards in seven plays for a TD.Â
T.J. Lattimore powered up the middle to convert a third-and-one and
Jacob Hunter broke a tackle in the backfield to pick up eight yards on the next play. Lattimore hit Rozell over the middle on third down to make it 13-0 with 6:56 left in the first quarter.
Wilson had a 45-yard interception return off a tipped pass for the only scoring of the second quarter. Lattimore connected with Dmitri Brown in the back of the end zone for the two-point try to make it 21-3 with 3:24 left in the second period.
L.T. Messick returned the second half kickoff 49 yards to the Alvernia 37-yard line. Facing fourth-and-6, Lattimore threaded a pass to
Ryan Krisiak for 14 yards to the Golden Wolves' 19-yard line. Maransky plowed up the middle for seven yards and Lattimore hit Peischl in the right flat for nine yards to set up first-and-goal. Maransky powered in from the three-yard to give MU a 28-3 early in the third quarter.
The Cougars stretched their lead to 35-3 on the second play of the fourth quarter. Lattimore rolled right and hit Peischl for nine yards to the MU 34-yard line. After a short gain by Maransky, Lattimore connected with
Billy McCleary down the middle for 29 yards into Alvernia territory. Maransky picked up eight yards on first down and Lattimore hit Rozell for eight more. Maransky picked up four yards to set up first-and-goal and Lattimore went untouched around left end to cap the MU scoring early in the fourth quarter.
