The 17th-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team used dominant offensive pressure to beat Lebanon Valley, 5-0, in their MAC Freedom opener, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Emma Sweitzer had two goals and two assists and
Colleen Kinsella had a goal and an assist.
Maegan Allspach and
MK Peters added a goal as the Cougars out shot LVC 20-4.
The Cougars controlled the play from the opening tap and had several good scoring opportunities. MU took 14 shots in the first half while allowing three.
Allspach gave the Cougars the lead early in the first half. Kinsella carried the ball down the left side and slid a pass across the box where Allspach slotted a shot inside the right post at 6:43.
MU made it 2-0 just a minute later when Sweitzer received the ball off a free kick and played the ball diagonally across the box to
Julia Beck who touched a pass Kinsella who tapped the ball into the lower left corner with the outside of her foot.
The scoring continued a few minutes later for the Cougars a few minutes later when Sweitzer received a ball over the back line from
Esabella Mendola and beat the keeper 1 v 1 into the left corner for a 3-0 lead 11:58.
In the 19
th minute,
Madison Brdaric's shot was bobbled the keeper and Sweitzer gathered the rebound and tapped it into the corner for a 4-0 lead.
Peters closed out the scoring three minutes later.
