The Misericordia University athletics program mourns the passing of Steven G. Kepic of Dallas.
A long-time friend and supporter of the Misericordia athletics program and a member of the Misericordia Athletics Hall of Fame, Kepic passed away Tuesday, October 15th, 2024 at his residence.
As owner of the local Wendy's franchise, he was the sponsor of the Misericordia Wendy's Athlete of the Month and Athlete of the Year programs for more than 25 years.
Steve fervently loved his family and friends, as many of his friends often became family to him. He loved his Wendy's family as his own, and was loved by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Born in Scranton on May 17, 1957, he was the son of the late Cyril F. and Shirley (Blaskiewicz) Kepic.
He was a graduate of Lackawanna Trail High School, where he excelled in academics and football. He used his talents as a football player to earn a scholarship to Colgate University. Upon graduation, he began working at Wendy's to earn money for graduate school, but quickly rose through the ranks instead, going from a part time Crew Member to owning and operating 11 Wendy's franchises in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area. Steve was loved and respected by his Wendy's family.
Steve believed in giving back to the community in which he grew up, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for childhood adoption. He had a strong commitment to the local college Misericordia, sponsoring the Athlete of the Month. He believed in giving back to the community in numerous different efforts.
In addition to his parents, Cyril and Shirley Kepic, Steven was preceded in death by his husband, Peter (Nanni) Kepic, his brother, Cyril F. Kepic, Jr. and his nephew Timothy Bray, Sr.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Lynn (Kepic) Weidner and husband John Weidner, brother Paul Kepic and wife Susan (Franzer) Kepic, sister-in-law Brandy (Bailey) Kepic; nieces and nephews Aimee (Smith) Bray, Matthew Kepic and wife Melanie (Maguire) Kepic, Cindi Kepic, Kristina Kepic, Olivia Kepic; great-nieces and nephews Timothy Bray Jr., Steven Bray, Sarabelle Bray and Emily Kepic, his devoted friends Melinda Watts, Tracy Stefanski, Jared Colley and of course his two loyal companions Raven and Piper.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 9 at Our Lady of the Abingtons Church (Dalton) at 11:00 am. At a private ceremony, Steven will be joining his husband Peter to rest as Partners for Eternity at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Johnson City, NY.
