The sixth-ranked Misericordia University women's soccer team will travel to Newport News, VA for the third round of the NCAA D-III Tournament in a sectional bracket that features four of the top 18 teams in the national rankings.
The Cougars will face number two Christopher Newport in the round of 16, Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Johns Hopkins and NYU are tied for 18th in the United Soccer Coaches rankings and will meet at 1:30. The winners will meet Sunday at 1:00 with a trip to the Final Four at stake.
Ticket prices will be $10 for adults and $5 for children and seniors.
Misericordia, 19-1-2, is making its seventh appearance in the round of 16 and is meeting Christopher Newport for the first time ever.
The Cougars advanced to the second weekend of the tournament with a pair of 3-1 victories over Grove City and Ithaca in the first two rounds.
Misericordia is led by seven All-MAC Freedom performers including Offensive Player of the Year Julia Beck and Defensive Player of the Year Brenna Field.
They were joined on the first team by Emma Sweitzer and Haleigh Wintersteen while Sabrina Competiello made the second team. Olivia Maniskas and Lauren Mondor earned honorable mention.
Beck was fourth on the team in scoring with seven goals and two assists from the midfield while Field anchored a back line that limited opponents to 8.3 shots per game.
Sweitzer led the team in scoring with 16 goals and is MU's all-time leader in goals, points and assists.
Wintersteen was third on the team in scoring with five goals and seven assists and Competiello scored seven goals as she provides and offensive spark in a reserve role.
Maniskas has five goals and four assists, including the game-winning goal in the MAC Freedom championship match.
Mondor posted 10 shutouts and led the MAC Freedom with a 0.46 GAA.
Madison Brdaric adds five goals and a team-high 10 assists and first-year forward Alyssa Steenback adds seven goals and two assists.
Christopher Newport advanced to the second weekend of tournament play courtesy of a 12-0 win over John Jay College on Saturday afternoon followed by a 4-0 victory against Vassar College on Sunday.
The Captains had eight players named to the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference all-league team, including Offensive Player of the Year Hanna Heaton and two-time Defensive Player of the Year Reanna Slater and were joined on the first team by Ellie Cox and Amy Sidaway.
Emma Ricci, Corinne Kulik, Kyleigh Gough and Nyah Savage made the second team.
Heaton leads the Captains with 43 points on 13 goals and 17 assists while Slater anchored a defense that has posted 14 shutouts.
Kulik is second on the team in scoring with nine goals and four assists while Ricci has six goals and seven assists.
Sidaway has 10 shutouts and a 0.42 GAA.
