MU Volleyball Splits With Arcadia, #9 Vassar

The Misericordia University men's volleyball team split a tri-match at Arcadia with #9 Vassar.
 
The Cougars swept Arcadia, 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-20), to improve to 4-1 in the MAC, but lost 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-18) to Vassar.
 
Jared Piontkowski had 18 kills, four aces and three blocks against Arcadia while Anthon DePalma had 15 kills.
 
Benjamin Clendening had five blocks and Gannon DeFrain had 36 assists.
 
Piontkowski and DePalma both had 17 kills against Vassar.
 
In the opening set against Arcadia, the Cougars used a 5-0 run to come from behind and take a 19-16 lead.  After two straight Arcadia attack errors, Piontkowski and DePalma both had kills before another Knights' error.
 
Piontkowski had two kills around a Matt Albrecht ace as the Cougars built a 23-18 lead.
 
The Cougars jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the second set, but the Knights roared back with nine straight points to pull even, 18-18.
 
Zane Martin had two kills down the stretch and DePalma had back-to-back kills to close it out.
 
MU trailed 13-11 in the finale, but scored five straight points to take the lead for good.  Martin had two kills to go with three Arcadia errors to fuel the spurt.
 
Piontkowski had a kill and DePalma had a kill and an ace to clinch the win.
 
Vassar used a 6-2 run take control of the opening set and build a 19-12 lead.  Piontkowski had three kills to pull the Cougars within 22-19, but they couldn't get any closer.
 
DePalma and Martin had kills to tie the second set, 11-11.  The set was back-and-forth the rest of the way with Vassar pulling out a 25-23 win.
Vassar used a 5-2 run to take a 15-10 lead in the finale.
