The Misericordia University softball season came to an ended with a tough 7-6 loss to FDU-Florham at the MAC Freedom championships, Friday at Lebanon Valley.

Gianna Foreman hit a game-tying, pinch-hit three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, but the Devils won it in the eighth.

Nikki Elliott had three hits and drove in a run and Bridget Doherty had two hits.

Down 1-0, the Cougars tied it in the bottom of the second.  Casey Funesti led off the inning with a single to right and moved up on Emma Griffin's two-out single to left.  Funesti went to third on a wild pitch and came home on Elizabeth Kelly's single to left.

The Devils took advantage of three MU errors to score four runs in the top of the third to go up, 5-1.

Misericordia got one back in the each of the third and fourth innings.  Gianna Russo walked to open the third and later scored on Elliot's opposite-field double.  Kaitlyn Slusser tripled to start the fourth and came home on Griffin's sac fly to get the Cougars within 5-3.

The Devils added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to set the stage for MU's rally in the bottom of the frame.  Elliott led off the seventh with her second double of the game and Kaitlin Redling walked to bring the tying run to the plate.  One-out later, Foreman homered down the left field line to tie the game.

The Cougars finished 22-14.
