MU Wrestling Dominates Inaugural Dual Meet

The Misericordia University men's wrestling team won its first ever dual meet with a 53-0 victory over Elmira, Thursday evening in the Anderson Center.

The Cougars took advantage of three forfeits to open the meet, but added two pins, four technical falls and a decision for the final margin.

Jaydin Barreto (125), Nikosh Marston (133) and Kruz McCusker (141) all won by forfeit to give the Cougars an 18-0 lead to open the meet.

In the first contested bout, Michael Williams fought off an early takedown attempt and spun behind for a 3-0 lead just 30 seconds into the match at 149.  After allowing an escape, he spun behind for another takedown with 2:00 remaining in the first period.

Williams used a cross-face tilt to pick to sets of four back points and build a 14-1 lead after one period.

Williams escaped to open the second period and picked up a takedown to finish a 19-1 technical fall at 3:50.

At 157, Chase Stephen used a double leg to record three first-period takedowns to pile up a 13-2 lead before recording the fall at 2:00.

In the only bout that went the distance, MU's Jariel Severino rallied for a 12-8 win at 165.  He gave up a pair of takedowns and trailed 6-2 after one period.  He escaped to open the second period and used an ankle pick takedown to tie the score, 6-6, with :35 left in the period.

He allowed an escape early in the third, but used a low single-leg shot for the go-ahead takedown with 1:15 to go.

After allowing another escape, Severino fought off a late shot and spun behind for a takedown with :05 to go to secure a 12-8 win.

At 174, Anthony Matas recorded two takedowns and got a stalling point to take a 7-1 lead after one period.  He used two double-leg takedowns to extend the lead to 13-2 after two periods.  He got an escape and a takedown to close out a 17-2 tech. fall.

Robbie Anderson used a deep double-leg takedown to take a 3-0 lead at 184 and eventually used a bar and half-nelson to record the fall at 2:46.

At 197, Simeon Hunte recorded five takedowns in the first period on the way to a 21-5 tech. fall at 5:44.

Aiden Hidlay picked up an early takedown and recorded four sets of back points to take a 12-0 lead after one period at 285.  He recorded a takedown to start the second period to clinch a 15-0 tech. fall at 3:10.
