MU Field Hockey Closes Regular Season With Shutout

The Misericordia University field hockey team defeated Delaware Valley, 4-0, in their regular season finale, Saturday at Mangelsdorf Field.

Madison Lasinski scored twice for the Cougars and Madison Blauch and Ashley Pitz added goals.

The Cougars earned their first opportunity after a penalty corner midway through the opening quarter following a shot by Emily Ervin.  Pitz had a good look on the rebound, but her shot went just wide of the net.

MU converted their next chance soon after.   Abigail O'Donnell dribbled to the end line before centering a pass to Hoffman in front where she threaded a pass to Blauch who stuffed a shot inside the left post for a 1-0 lead with 4:32 to go in the first quarter.

The second quarter saw shots from Hoffman, Blauch and Ava Cirigliano, but they were all either blocked or saved by the Aggies goalkeeper and MU took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Misericordia capitalized on its first opportunity in the second half. Lasinski's shot from the right flank was saved, but the collected the rebound, dribbled around the goalie and fired a shot into an empty net for a 2-0 lead just over a minute into the third period.

Lasinski earned her second goal on another rebound 10 minutes later to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead.

Pitz closed out the scoring with a rebound inside the right post to extend the lead to 4-0 with less than eight minutes to play.

The second-seeded Cougars will host DeSales in the MAC Freedom Semifinals, Wednesday at 7:00.
