The Misericordia University football team remained in a first place tie in the MAC with a 35-16 win at FDU-Florham, Saturday.

The Cougars scored twice late in the first quarter and never looked back while improving to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the MAC.

Angelo Fluri had two rushing touchdowns and
Kasiah Poole and
Jacob Hunter added one scoring run each.

Anthony Rucci had a touchdown reception for the game's first score.
Â
Gavin Morris had nine tackles and forced a fumble to lead the defense.

Fluri ran for 87 yards and Rucci had 130 yards on six catches.

Hunter threw for 238 yards and added 79 yards on the ground.

After the teams exchanged punts on the first two possessions of the game, Rucci's 19-yard TD reception capped a 64-yard drive to give the Cougars a 7-0 lead with 5:50 to play in the first period.

MU recovered a fumble on the next series and took advantage of the short field as Hunter converted a fourth-and-4 with a five-yard TD run to make it 14-0 with 3:19 remaining in the first quarter.

The Cougars got the ball back at midfield after forcing a punt and Poole scored from one-yard out to extend the lead to 21-0 early in the second period.

Following an FDU-Florham field goal, Fluri scored on fourth-and-goal to make it 28-3 with less than two minutes to play in the first half.

Fluri added another short TD run in the fourth quarter.

The Cougars will host Delaware Valley, Saturday.
