The Misericordia University men's wrestling team had two champions and seven place-winners at the Cougar Classic, Saturday in the Anderson Center.
Anthony Matas and
Robbie Anderson both won their weight classes while
Aiden Hidlay and
Michael Williams both finished second.
Jacob Weaver,
Jaydin Barreto and
Kruz McCusker all finished third.
Matas opened with an 8-1 decision at 174 pounds and moved the semifinals with a 9-0 major decision. He recorded back-to-back 6-1 decisions in the semis and finals.
Anderson opened with a 16-0 tech fall at 184 pounds and recorded a first period fall in the semifinals. He picked up a takedown in the final minute to clinch a 10-6 win in the finals.
Hidlay won his opening bout at 285 pounds, 10-4, and won 10-1 in the semis before falling in the finals, 8-1.
At 149 pounds, Williams won 15-0 and 15-2 to reach the semifinals. He scored nine straight points to take a 9-3 lead into the third period on the way to an 11-6 win in the semis. He dropped an 11-3 decision in the finals.
Barreto won four straight consolation matches to finish third at 125.
McCusker won his first two matches at 133 pounds before losing in the semifinals. He won 8-2 and 15-0 in the consolation round to finish third.
Weaver won four straight bouts in the consolation bracket to finish third at 165 pounds.
