The Misericordia University softball team opened the season with a sweep at Shenandoah, Sunday.

The Cougars never trailed in the opener in a 9-6 win and came from behind to win the nightcap, 8-6, in nine innings.

Edna Kiefer all had two hits in the opener.

MU built a 9-2 lead after five innings and held off a late Shenandoah rally.

Marisa Kelly worked 4.1 innings to earn the win.

Tinio had a two-run single in a four-run third inning and Funesti and Nasso both drove in runs in a three-run fifth inning.

Elizabeth Kelly had three hits in the nightcap and
Sierra Miller and Tinio both drove in three runs.

Doherty added two hits.

Down 5-0 after three innings, the Cougars got on the board in the fourth on Kelly's RBI-double. Miller had a two-run triple and scored on Tinio's sacrifice fly to get MU within a run in the fifth.

Miller drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the tying run in the sixth.

Tinio gave the Cougars their first lead with a two-run triple in the ninth and came home on a wild pitch.

Sienna Lawson tossed six scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.
