The Misericordia University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Alvernia, Tuesday.
The Cougars came from behind to win the opener, 5-3, but dropped the nightcap, 5-4, in extra innings.
Casey Funesti and Mackenzie both homered and combined to drive in all five MU runs in the opener.
Savannah Richards added two hits and
Gabby Cruz struck out six to earn the complete game win.
Alvernia came from behind three times to win game two.
Rylie Nasso had two hits and Fizer had two RBI.
Trailing 2-0 after one inning in game one, the Cougars scored four times in the top of the fifth and added an insurance run in the seventh.
Bridget Doherty led off the top of the fifth with an infield single and Nasso walked. Following a sacrifice bunt by
Gianna Russo, Funesti singled to center to cut the deficit in half.
Fizer followed with a three-run homer to center.
Fuenesti's two-out, solo homer in the top of seventh made it 5-3.
In game two, Fizer's two-triple down the right field line gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
Alvernia tied it in the bottom of the third and the score stood until the seventh.
Doherty doubled and later scored on an Alvernia error to put the Cougars back in front.
Alvernia stayed alive with a run in the bottom of the seventh.
Funesti put the Cougars back in front with a double down the left field line in the top of the eighth.
The Golden Wolves won it with a two-out single in the bottom of the eighth.
