MU Volleyball Clinches Third Seed

The Misericordia University volleyball team split a tri-match with Stevenson and #13 St. John Fisher, Saturday in the Anderson Center.
 
The Cougars beat Stevenson, 3-1, to clinch third place in the MAC.
 
They lost the regular-season finale to SJFC, 3-0, to finish 22-11.
 
The Cougars will travel to Messiah for the MAC semifinals, Thursday.
 
Against Stevenson, Jared Piontkowski had 27 kills and three blocks and Anthony DePalma had 11 kills and three blocks.  Thomas Young had 11 kills and Benjamin Clendening had a team-high eight blocks.
 
Gannon DeFrain had 47 assists and 11 digs.
 
Against Fisher, DePalma had 15 kills and Piontkowski had 10 kills and three blocks.  Clendening and Joe Kozak added three blocks each.
 
DeFrain had 32 assists.
 
In the opening set against Stevenson, Piontkowski had two kills as the Cougars broke a 21-21 tie and won the match on a Mustangs' attack error.
 
Stevenson jumped out to an 8-2 lead and held off a late MU rally to win the second set.
 
Piontkowski had two kills and Logan Romeika had an ace as the Cougars rallied from an 18-13 deficit to tie the third set, 19-19.
 
DePalma's kill gave MU a 21-20 lead an Piontkowski scored the last four points for the Cougars.
 
Down 14-13 in the fourth set, the Cougars used a 7-1 run to take a 20-15 lead.
 
Piontkowski had three more kills down the stretch to clinch the win.
 
Fisher scored six straight points to break a 15-15 tie to win the opening set.
 
Down 23-18 in the second set, the Cougars scored five of the next six points, but the Cardinals got a kill to thwart the rally.
 
SJFC scored four of the last five points in the finale to clinch the sweep.
