Misericordia Adds ACHA Hockey Team

8/14/2025 11:03:00 AM

Misericordia University President Daniel J. Myers, Ph.D., has announced the university's membership in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA).

"We're excited to expand our hockey program as part of the ACHA," said Myers.  "This decision underscores our commitment to the growth of collegiate hockey and provides enhanced opportunities for more student-athletes to be engaged in intercollegiate competition with the benefits of a Misericordia education."

In addition to its varsity hockey team in the Middle Atlantic Conference, the Cougars will field a team in the non-varsity ACHA.  Misericordia will compete in its second varsity season in 2025-26.

The ACHA squad will play an 18-game schedule from September to January with their home games at the Toyota SportsPlex in Wilkes-Barre.

Scott Swanson, an assistant coach with the MU varsity squad, will serve as head coach of the ACHA team.

Founded in 1991, the ACHA is the national association for non-NCAA collegiate hockey throughout the United States and includes more than 460 college and university-affiliated teams in 48 states and Canada.

With approximately 13,000 players and coaches as well as countless volunteers and game officials, the ACHA has experienced tremendous growth over the past decade and continues to be a viable option for college bound student-athletes to continue playing competitive hockey.

The primary mission of the ACHA is to support the growth of Collegiate Hockey while emphasizing academic performance, personal development and opportunities for regional, national and international competition.
