The Misericordia University field hockey team secured its third-straight victory after defeating Cortland, 3-2, Saturday afternoon. The win marks MU's first ever victory over the Red Dragons.
Celeste Hoffman,
Ashleigh Steele and
Madison Blauch were responsible for the goals. Steele,
Abigail O'Donnell and
Madison Lasinski tacked on the assist for the three scores.
After an early goal from the Red Dragons at 12:17, the Cougars dominated the second period. It started with Hoffman taking a shot off a pass from O'Donnell and the ball deflecting off the post into the goal to tie the game, 1-1, at 20:11.
Just three minutes later, Lasinski sent in a pass from the right to Steele, who knocked in her first collegiate goal to make it 2-1 at 23:51.
After the halftime break, the Cougars got on the board again off a pass from Steele to Blauch, whose shot tipped off the left post into the goal at 39:33 to extend the lead to 3-1.
Cortland cut the deficit to 3-2 with a goal at 43:16, but MU stifled the Red Dragons the rest of the way to secure the victory.
Sarah Bogina saved four shots, and four more got blocked by the defense in a superb second-half defensive performance.
The three-game winning streak is Misericordia's longest since 2021.
The Cougars will be at Muhlenberg on Wednesday, September 17, at 7:00 p.m.
