After dominating play for 59 minutes, the Misericordia University field hockey team finally broke through with less than a minute remaining in a 1-0 at William Paterson, Friday evening.
Celeste Hoffman scored the game-winner with an assist from
Madison Lasinski with just 23 seconds to play.
Abigail O'Donnell started the winning play as she carried the ball down the right sideline to midfield where she found Lasinski in stride.
Lasinski cut to the middle and centered a pass to Hoffman in front of the cage where she beat the Pioneers goalie inside the left post from six yards out.
O'Donnell nearly got the Cougars on the board just over a minute earlier when she dribbled through traffic deep in the circle and wristed a shot on goal from five yards out that was deflected wide by the Paterson goalie.
Misericordia held a commanding edge in shots, 33-3, and earned 23 penalty corners while allowing just two.
Sarah Bogina made two saves in goal to earn the shutout.
