The Misericordia University men's volleyball team opened the Cougar Kick-Off Classic with a hard-fought sweep over Thiel, Friday night on Doc Mould Court.
The Cougars won 27-25, 26-24, 29-27 to improve to 2-2.
Jackson Fehnel had a team-high nine kills while
Christopher U'Glay had eight kills.
Noah Reen had six kills, three aces and two blocks.
Benjamin Clendening had three blocks.
Evan Schmidt and
Andrew George had 13 assists each and
Richie Ragonese, George and U'Glay all had five digs.
Thiel rallied from a 20-14 deficit in the opener to take a 25-24 lead, but two errors and Fehnel's ace clinched the win for MU.
Down 22-21 in the second set, Reen's kill and a Clendening block helped MU take a 24-22 lead.
Thiel pulled even, but two more errors gave MU a 26-24 win.
Neither team scored more than two straight points in the finale until a kill Reen and another Fehnel ace keyed three straight MU points for a 23-21 lead.
Thiel had two set-point opportunities but the Cougars rallied to score three straight on a kill by Fehnel, a Clendening ace and a kill by U'Glay to win 29-27.
