Stevenson Volleyball Rallies to Edge Cougars

The Misericordia University men's volleyball team fell 3–2 at Stevenson, Saturday evening.
 
Christopher U'Glay led the Cougars with 14 kills while Jackson Fehnel and Isaac Griffin added 11 apiece.
 
The Cougars captured the first two sets, 25–23 and 25–19, before dropping the final three sets, 25–19, 25–23, and 15–12.
 
Misericordia opened the match with three quick points in the first set, but Stevenson responded with a service error forced by the Cougars followed by an ace to close the gap.
 
The remainder of the set was tightly contested with both teams trading short runs.
 
Trailing 20–19, a Griffin kill ignited a 3–0 run to give the Cougars a 22–19 advantage.
 
With the set tied again at 23–23, U'Glay delivered back-to-back kills to seal the 25–23 win.
 
Momentum carried into the second set as the Cougars opened with another scoring run to build a 6–2 lead.
 
Ahead 9–7, a kill from Joe Kozak sparked a three-point swing that extended the lead to 12–7.
 
After the Mustangs rallied to cut the deficit to 20–18, Misericordia scored five of the next six points to close out the set.
 
The third set saw the Cougars score first on a kill from Benjamin Clendening, but Stevenson quickly seized control.
 
Misericordia battled back and trimmed the deficit to one at 14–13, before a 5–0 Mustangs run proved decisive as Stevenson claimed the set 25–19.
 
The fourth set opened with both teams trading points, but the Cougars pulled ahead 16–11 off a U'Glay kill and later extended the lead to 20–14.
 
Misericordia then fell into a drought, allowing Stevenson to close the set on an 11–3 run to force a decisive fifth set.
 
The final set was back-and-forth until Stevenson built a four-point lead at 10–6. The Cougars responded with a strong push to tie the score at 12–12, but the Mustangs took the final three points to secure the set and the 3–2 victory.
