The Misericordia University softball team split a doubleheader with FDU-Florham, Sunday at Lake-Lehman High School's Flossy Finn Field.

The Cougars rallied to win game one, 8-4, but fell 7-3 in the nightcap.

Gianna Russo and
Casey Funesti had two hits each in the opener and
Bridget Doherty drove in two runs.

Gabby Cruz scattered five hits over seven innings to earn the win.

Funesti had three hits for MU in game two.

After FDU scored twice in the top of third to get within 3-2 in game one, the Cougars scored six runs on seven hits in bottom of the third inning.Â
Mackenzie Fizer doubled off the fence in right field and scored the tying run on Funesti's 0-2 single through the right side.

Rylie Nasso reached on an infield single and both runners moved up a sacrifice bunt. Cruz bounced an infield single to third to drive in the go-ahead run.

Doherty singled in a run and Tinio walked to load the bases. Russo lined a single to left center to plate two runs and Foreman singled to center to give the Cougars an 8-3 lead.

The Cougars put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the first inning in game two. Fizer was hit by a pitch and Foreman walked before Funesti lined a single down the right field line.

FDU-Florham scored in each of its next four at bats to secure the come-from-behind win.
